The Benefits of LED Garden Lighting
LED garden lighting is an increasingly popular trend. It is being used throughout the country for a variety of reasons. One reason is that countless studies show that curb appeal can dramatically increase the value of a home. Another reason to install garden lighting is to highlight walkways and make the
garden a useable space even at night. While a variety of bulb types can be chosen for garden lighting, most experts believe that LED light bulbs are the best.
First, the top benefit usually recognized for LED lights over incandescent bulbs is their long life. An LED’s lifespan is generally measured around 50,000 hours before it begins to fade. Its entire lifespan until it completely burns out can be around 100,000 hours. This can be compared to an incandescent’s average lifespan of 2,000 to 3,000 hours or a compact fluorescent bulb’s lifespan of 8,000 to 10,000 hours. Some people may complain that they cannot afford to install LED lighting in their gardens. However, over time, the LED lights will more than pay for themselves since they can last for almost twelve years when run for twelve hours per day. When compared to incandescent bulbs, which must be replaced every year or two, the LED light bulb will actually be cheaper.
Second, LED garden lights are small and can be fit in many hard to reach places. One LED bulb measures between three to eight millimeters. This small bulb size insures that lighting is directed specifically. They can be used in places where it is impossible to fit incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. This is perfect for the garden setting where lighting should be small and inconspicuous.
Third, LED bulbs waste very little energy when compared to traditional bulbs. An incandescent bulb only uses approximately twenty percent of its energy for lighting while the other eighty percent is wasted as heat. The LED bulb uses about eighty percent of its energy on lighting and only wastes twenty percent of its energy as heat. The best bulb options are those that have received the government’s Energy Star rating.
LED garden lighting can be much cheaper and more efficient than traditional garden lighting. Once installed, these bulbs last for years, thereby decreasing maintenance. LED lighting will make the garden a warm and welcoming place and will create a new usable living space during the warm months.
